The Parasite Project <<< a collaboration of global film makers

19 03 2011

A global film project, a unique and unprecedented traveling art installation exploring the entanglement of culture, environment, science, nature and universal connectivity.

The installation will consist of two components: a sculptural, structural installation and an indoor video installation housed in a number of spaces within the structure.

The premier of the installation will be in Asia’s non-stop metropolis, Hong Kong after which it will begin it’s migration around the world.

The project is about connectivity, how we all feel like outsiders but are actually all connected. It is also about the spread of ideas, like a virus, the project deliberately infects other artists, filmmakers and locations as it moves around the world.

ARTIVIST : creative on WAKEdUP <<< new site

20 11 2010

website : www.WAKEdUP.co.nz

applications : dreamweaver 8 / flash 8 / photoshop CS2

client : M-I-A wakeboarding / !@M3 SK8

… designed from a clever template & with some nice content found on ‘free’ websites we cut this little one page site in a day…

The domain was the last piece to the puzzle & was registered after the site was uploaded to the ARTIVIST : server after a true geek all nighter <<< always better in the middle of the night!

“This small project was a distraction to get the content compiled, I grabbed a template for the XML elements & amended the content & in the end proved to be a good front end!” says JoFF Rae “the page is trick… summer & upbeat”.

The page uses XML to update various elements of the site in a Flash based animated page <<< kinda cool in a very geek way!  The content was compiled & elements were found on the internet & heavily edited to make the end product & suit the requirements of the WAKEdUP content.

10 09 2010

Salmonella Dub LIVE with Soulsystem & guests…

This short Spring Break run over Labour Weekend is the first of the summer series from Salmonella Dub LIVE with a fresh look based on the OG Salmonella Dub we all want!!!

The line up has been designed to suit this tour specifically with Soulsystem making appearances throughout & the exciting inclusion of Mt Eden Dubstep at Managwhai Tavern.  Expect guest DJs, vocalists & MCs including DJ Rude Boy & the Mighty Asterix & other familiar faces…

The band have pulled out some special stops with a show at the Cabana in Napier on Thursday 21st October for a limited 250 audience – an intimacy that has not been offered by the group in some time.

Palmerston North is a great small venue event at the Colesseum on Friday 22nd with a capacity of 500 in relative plush surrounds… likewise the capacity of the Woolshed Tavern on the afternoon of Sunday 24th in Reporoa.  The 2 venues are the extremely different & this shows a level of diversity & intimacy that Salmonella Dub has with its local audiences.

Mangawhai Tavern on Saturday 23rd October at 7pm – doors to the DUB!!!  Salmonella Dub supported by Soulsystem & Mt Eden Dubstep & guests!!! BIIGGG!!!!  For those who want to mix it with the masses – MANGAWHAI!!!!

ARTIVIST : propagande par le fait

9 09 2010

ARTIVIST : creative has started work on a new model of PR based on the concept of propagande par le fait – or Propaganda of the deed…

The basic concept is from the Italian revolutionary Carlo Pisacane (1818–1857), who wrote in his “Political Testament” (1857) that “ideas spring from deeds and not the other way around.” Mikhail Bakunin (1814–1876), in his “Letters to a Frenchman on the Present Crisis” (1870) stated that “we must spread our principles, not with words but with deeds, for this is the most popular, the most potent, and the most irresistible form of propaganda.”[1]

ARTIVIST : contracting based on the Nash Equilibrium

2 08 2010

Recently ARTIVIST : creative has developed a series of contracts that involve a shared risk/shared profit that helps venues & artists achieve a common goal – successful events!

subgame perfect Nash equilibrium

The contract, developed for Salmonella Dub, lowers standard deposits & works on a percentage break of gross profit; both the artist & the venue need to expel effort to maximise returns & both benefit greatly by working together to achieve this success.

“We modelled the contract at a couple of gigs earlier this year & it went well… since then a major festival has picked up the idea & it was essential in securing acts” says JoFF Rae of the contract… “the key is to make an agreement & see the benefits to yourself & to others in the equation & stick to it through to delivery – possibly a practical example of the Nash Equilibrium.

The Nash Equilibrium – informal definition:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Informally, a set of strategies is a Nash equilibrium if no player can do better by unilaterally changing his or her strategy. To see what this means, imagine that each player is told the strategies of the others. Suppose then that each player asks himself or herself: “Knowing the strategies of the other players, and treating the strategies of the other players as set in stone, can I benefit by changing my strategy?”

If any player would answer “Yes”, then that set of strategies is not a Nash equilibrium. But if every player prefers not to switch (or is indifferent between switching and not) then the set of strategies is a Nash equilibrium. Thus, each strategy in a Nash equilibrium is a best response to all other strategies in that equilibrium.[3]

The Nash equilibrium may sometimes appear non-rational in a third-person perspective. This is because it may happen that a Nash equilibrium is not Pareto optimal.

The Nash equilibrium may also have non-rational consequences in sequential games because players may “threaten” each other with non-rational moves. For such games the Subgame perfect Nash equilibrium may be more meaningful as a tool of analysis.
